Hi, I’m Omar Abuassaf.
I am an IT professional, lab supervisor, and full-stack WordPress developer working at UCLA’s Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences (EPSS). My work focuses on maintaining reliable computing environments for faculty, researchers, and students, while also building and supporting departmental websites and internal tools.
I oversee EPSS instructional computer labs and departmental infrastructure, supporting Windows, macOS, and Linux systems, Active Directory environments, and a wide range of academic and administrative software. I work closely with faculty and the IT Director to plan upgrades, maintain lab reliability, and ensure systems remain secure and functional.
In addition to infrastructure and user support, I specialize in WordPress development and web applications for academic use. I maintain and develop departmental websites, migrate and secure legacy sites, and build custom plugins and internal tools that streamline workflows for staff and faculty.
I enjoy solving complex technical problems, especially where automation and thoughtful system design can reduce long-term maintenance and improve reliability. My approach emphasizes documentation, sustainability, and clear communication with non-technical users.
Core areas of focus include:
- Instructional computer lab management and support
- Windows Server, Active Directory, and Group Policy
- macOS, Windows, and Linux desktop support
- WordPress development, customization, and maintenance
- Internal tools and workflow automation
- Faculty and staff technical support and training
