The LES numerical model, a parallelized Fortran code, is ideally suited to large-scale simulations of boundary layer turbulence and flow over topographic obstacles (e.g., Albertson and Parlange, 1999; Calaf et al., 2010; Anderson and Meneveau, 2011; Jacob and Anderson, 2016). The code solves the three-dimensional transport equation for evolution of differential momentum:
